Application of Geoinformation and Earth Observation for land and water resources management is my core strength. My interest in the subject developed during my Master’s degree in Applied geological Sciences when I first used the tool for my work. Read More As part of my Master’s dissertation I was trained to use the tool while working on Digital Elevation Modelling and Landuse / Landcover mapping at the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, ISRO, Dehradun, India.

Since then I developed keen interest in the subject area and explored it further in my early professional career. I gained experience in Visual and Digital Interpretation of satellite sensor data of IRS and Landsat programs. During this period, I also gained knowledge on analysis of time series earth observation data and hands on experience on ESRI Arc Info software suites. I have the privilege to use Arc View 3.2a as well as the Arc Info UNIX version during my early career and I have used all the versions of the Arc GIS software suite (ArcGIS 8.0 to current ArcGIS 10.7) and have experienced the change in architecture of geospatial database over time. My experience in GIS software and GIS database management, database design includes integration of external resources with ESRI Geodatabase. I also have experience in geographic data management from multiple sources including censuses, geographical statistics, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs and existing maps and databases. My other experience in this subject area includes terrain modelling, 3D terrain mapping & 3D fly through using geo-information tools.

I enhanced my capacity further in the field by successfully completing a second Master’s degree in Geoinformation and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management conducted jointly by ITC, The Netherlands, University of Southampton, UK, Lund University, Sweden and Warsaw University, Poland. The experience gained during my Master’s was extensively used during my master’s dissertation on Geoinformatics for Inter Basin Water Transfer Assessment and my PhD on Channel planform dynamics of the Ganga-Padma system, India which I completed from University of Southampton, UK.

Geoinformation is currently an integral part of my professional work and I am currently using it for hazard, vulnerability and risk assessment as well as various climate smart initiatives for the agriculture and the water sector.
